One of the most consistent things we hear from patients considering XERF: “I just want to know what’s actually going to happen.” Not the brochure version the real version. What does each session feel like? When do you start seeing something? What does it look like at 3 months versus 6?
Here’s the honest, stage-by-stage answer.
First: The Consultation
XERF starts with an assessment, not a treatment. Before any session is scheduled, your provider at Avi Aesthetics will evaluate the areas of concern typically the jawline, jowls, neck, submental area, or brow and determine whether XERF is the right fit for your anatomy and goals.
Not every patient is an ideal candidate, and we’re straightforward about that. XERF works best for patients with mild to moderate laxity. Significant structural changes are better addressed surgically, and we’ll tell you that directly rather than oversell a result the treatment can’t deliver.
If you’re a good candidate, your provider will recommend a specific number of sessions, identify the treatment zones, and walk you through what the collagen-building timeline realistically looks like.
The Treatment Experience
Each XERF session uses radiofrequency energy delivered at precise depths to heat the tissue that stimulates collagen production. The sensation most patients describe: a deep warmth — intense at moments, but not painful. It’s commonly compared to a hot stone massage rather than anything clinical.
Sessions typically run about an hour at Avi Aesthetics. There’s no anaesthesia required, no incisions, and no recovery time. Most patients return to their normal day immediately.
Mild redness or swelling in the treated area is normal and usually resolves within a few hours.
The Results Timeline
Weeks 1–4: Subtle Shifts
Don’t expect dramatic change in the first few weeks and don’t let the absence of visible results concern you. This is the phase where the radiofrequency energy has done its work at the tissue level and the collagen remodeling process is underway. Some patients notice their skin feeling slightly firmer or more taut during this window; others don’t notice much at all yet.
Consistency with sun protection is especially important during this phase. UV exposure can interfere with the collagen-building process XERF is designed to trigger.
Weeks 4–8: Early Improvements
This is typically when patients start noticing something. The skin may appear slightly lifted along the jawline, or the texture feels noticeably different. These early changes are real but partial the remodeling process is still actively underway, and what’s visible now is a preview, not the final result.
Month 3: Visible Lifting
The 3-month mark is where results become clearly visible to most patients and where the most common reaction is wanting to have started sooner. Jawline definition tends to sharpen, neck laxity shows measurable improvement, and brow position often lifts perceptibly. This is also the point where patients who’ve been maintaining consistent SPF and skincare start to see the compounding benefit of protecting new collagen as it forms.
Month 6: Full Results
Six months post-series is when collagen remodeling is complete and the final result is fully visible. For most patients, the improvement at this stage is meaningfully more significant than what was visible at month 3 the lifting is more defined, the skin surface is smoother, and the overall effect reads as refreshed rather than treated.
This is also the milestone where before-and-after comparisons are most striking because the change happened gradually enough that it’s easy to forget what the starting point looked like.
What Affects Your Results
-
Completing the full recommended series a single session initiates the process but does not complete it
-
Daily broad-spectrum SPF 30+ throughout the treatment period and beyond
-
Avoiding significant sun exposure in the days immediately following each session
-
Pairing XERF with complementary treatments Botox addresses muscle movement while XERF addresses laxity; many patients do both
When Should I Book?
The timing answer is almost always: sooner than you think. A patient who starts a XERF series this month has visible lifting by November and full results by February. A patient who waits until October is looking at April for full results.
Starting in August specifically means your results are building through fall arriving exactly when you want them for the holiday season and beyond.
Is XERF Right for You?
The best way to find out is a consultation. XERF is not a one-size-fits-all treatment candidacy depends on your specific anatomy, the degree of laxity present, and what you’re trying to achieve. A 20-minute assessment at Avi Aesthetics will give you a clear answer and a realistic picture of what your results could look like.
